Following the example set by the Cebu Dancing Inmates and even the Cebu Pacific dancing flight attendants, another pop sensation has caught people’s attention—the Cebu City Hall’s dancing collectors.

With their goal of increasing tax accumulation seemingly fulfilled, it has been reported by the Cebu Daily News on Dec. 7 that from January to November of this year, Cebu’s tax collection amounted P3.3 billion. The figure shows dramatic increase from the previous year’s collection (in the same period) of P1.7 billion.

Ofelia Oliva, city treasurer, said in an interview with the daily, “[The dancing tax collectors] is not just entertainment but a motivation.”

Oliva deemed it better to encourage citizens to pay their taxes through their performances than sending demand letters.
